The launch of 1711 Walk appears in Time Out (June 9-15) as one of “The five best events this week”.

St George Hanover Square: The Church is likely to be open until at least 2:00 p.m., possibly to 2:30 p.m.

It is gratifying to have received the support of Lord Lloyd Webber, an enthusiastic campaigner for greater awareness of some of the unsung riches of British church architecture. Of Queen Anne’s 1711 Act, Lord Lloyd Webber says: “Very few people realise what a huge church building project (this) started. The 1711 Walk project is a wonderful way of both bringing to life a bit of history and also providing the opportunity to see some of the wonderful churches built at that time.”

St George-in-the-East: The Guide mentions the Parish Eucharist at 10:15 a.m. but doesn’t mention that the Church will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (as it is every day). The Rector, Canon Michael Ainsworth, will be around to welcome visitors.
St Luke Old Street: There is an event taking place which it is not possible for walkers to attend. However, the fact that the building is open means that it may be possible to give out some general information about its history.

“Ambulator” has set up a JustGiving page in support of the National Churches Trust 1711 Fund. There’s also a 1711 Fund JustGiving page set up by the NCT itself.

“Ambulator” will be giving a talk to the Friends of Lincoln’s Inn Fields following their AGM on Wednesday, 8th June. Everyone is welcome to attend. The AGM is taking place at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Room, The Royal College of Surgeons of England, 35-43 Lincoln’s Inn Fields, London WC2A 3PE. He will be exploring the little known links between Lincoln’s Inn Fields, Lincoln’s Inn and the Queen Anne Churches. Afterwards, there will be an opportunity to do “The Ninth Walk” from St Mary le Strand to St George’s Bloomsbury (this is slightly over a mile and should take about 20 minutes). There is a Facebook event page for those who’d like to let others know that they’ll be attending.

The 1711 Walk Guide will be launched at St Alfege Greenwich at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday 12th June. This is the exact 300th anniversary of Queen Anne’s grant of assent to the Act for Building Fifty New Churches. There’s an 8:00 a.m. service at St Alfege which those walking from Greenwich might like to attend. The Guide contains information about the times of services and other events on the 12th. For those who’d like to let others know that they’ll be walking some or all of the route that day, there’s a Facebook event page.

There’s an article about 1711 Walk on the Greenwich Phantom website (An Intimate Guide to LIfe in Greenwich). The 1711 Walk route starts in Greenwich and the Guide will be launched there on Sunday 12th June. There are also mentions on the Time Out website and on Leigh Hatts’s blog, London’s 100 Best Churches.

Boris Johnson, the Mayor of London, has expressed his support for 1711 Walk, saying: “The concept to walk and link 12 churches in London is a brilliant idea and I hope it is a great success. I would like to take this opportunity to extend my warmest good wishes to all connected with 1711 Walk”.
